Configuring Viscosity on the Mac OS.
Please use the following instructions to configure your Mac VPN connection using the Viscosity software
please follow the instructions below. Before you start make sure that you have saved the VPN
configuration files that were sent to you onto your hard disk.
Important note: Please do not delete these files while you wish to continue using the VPN
service.
- Download the Viscosity VPN client from the Viscosity web site.
- Once the download is finished the file should automatically open and you should see the screen below.

Drag the Viscosity application icon onto the Applications icon. You have then installed the software. - Open your Applications folder and double click on Viscosity to open it. You will see a new icon appear
in your menu bar, click on this to show the Viscosity menu and select the Preferences item.
- The Preferences window will now appear. Click the + button at the bottom of the screen and select
Import connection.
- Navigate to the folder where you saved your VPN configuration files and select the .ovpn
file.
- Now the preferences window will show your connection configuration. It will be displayed as
being disconnected. Click on the connection name and then press the Edit button.
- Press the select button next to the CA box.
- Navigate to the folder where you saved your VPN configuration files and select the file ca.crt
- Now press the select button next to the Cert box.
- Navigate to the folder where you saved your VPN configuration files and select the .crt
file that matches the .ovpn filename.
- Finally in this window press the select button next to the Key box.
- Again navigate to the folder where your configuration files are located. This time choose the
.key file.
- Now press the save button to save the connection configuration. Then close the
Preferences window.
- The Viscosity icon is changed now that the connection is configured, click it and then click
the connection name to connect to the VPN.
- When you are ready to disconnect form the VPN click on the Viscosity icon again and click on disconnect.
Configuring OpenVPN on XP
Please use the following instructions to configure your VPN connection using the OpenVPN software and you are using Windows XP please follow the instructions below.
- Install the OpenVPN client by clicking here then select Run from the File Download window that appears.
- You will be presented with the OpenVPN setup screen. Click Next> to start the installation.
- You will now see a License Agreement screen. Click I Agree.
- At the Choose Compenents leave all the components checked and click Next>
- Choose the folder where you want to install the OpenVPN software.
If you change this from the default make sure you note down where you install it as you will need this information later
Press the Install button when you are ready. - The software will install and you will see an Installation Complete screen. Click Next>.
- Click the Finish button to complete the software installation. Now you are ready to install the configuration files that were sent to you.
- Open Windows Explorer and locate the folder that you installed OpenVPN into. Copy all 4 files that
were emailed to you into the config folder.
You are now ready to connect to the VPN. - On your desktop you should see a new icon named OpenVPN GUI. Right click this icon and select Run as administrator.
- In the System Tray (where the clock appears) there should now be an icon with two red PCs.
Right-click on this OpenVPN icon and select the Connect menu item.
The VPN connection should now be made and the icon should change to green. - To disconnect from the VPN right click on the green PC OpenVPN icon and select Disconnect.
Configuring OpenVPN in Windows Vista
Please use the following instructions to configure your VPN connection using the OpenVPN software and you are using Windows Vista please follow the instructions below.
- Download the OpenVPN client by clicking here and save it to your PC.
Important: do not run the file from your browser it must be saved to the PC and run with administrator permissions. - Open Windows Explorer and locate the saved OpenVPN installer. Right click on it and select Run as administrator from the pop-up menu.
- You will be presented with the OpenVPN setup screen. Click Next> to start the installation.
- You will now see a License Agreement screen. Click I Agree.
- At the Choose Compenents leave all the components checked and click Next>
- Choose the folder where you want to install the OpenVPN software.
If you change this from the default make sure you note down where you install it as you will need this information later
Press the Install button when you are ready. - The software will install and you will see an Installation Complete screen. Click Next>.
- Click the Finish button to complete the software installation. Now you are ready to install the configuration files that were sent to you.

You may be presented with a security warning when copying the configuration files to the OpenVPN config folder. Provide the administrator details as necessary.
You are now ready to connect to the VPN. - On your desktop you should see a new icon named OpenVPN GUI. Right click this icon and select Run as administrator.
